Lens Replacement Surgery, also known as Refractive Lens Exchange or RLE, can be an effective option for many people over 45 who are affected by presbyopia. The procedure replaces the eye’s natural lens with an artificial intraocular lens and can correct short-sightedness, long-sightedness and, with an appropriate toric lens, astigmatism.

Because the natural lens is removed, a cataract cannot later develop in that lens. The implanted lens is designed to remain in the eye permanently.
